Black River Tunnel – Cutterhead Lowered Into Shaft

On Tuesday, August 20th, our crews along with the help of a 550-ton crane, safely and successfully lowered the 232,000 pound TBM cutterhead down to the bottom of the 175-foot launch shaft.  Months of planning go into moving a piece of this magnitude, and the process went smoothly.  Once the remaining shields are lowered and assembled behind the cutterhead, we will be ready for mining.  Super Excavators would like to extend a big thank you to all of the people who helped make this milestone event a success!
