In March 2013, Super Excavators executed a microtunneling Subcontract agreement with Ric-Man Construction for the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department Government Cut Utility Relocation Project. The contract involved construction of 700 lineal feet of 74″ OD steel casing microtunnel pipeline to carry a new 54″ forcemain underneath the Government Cut between Fisher Island and South of the City of Miami Beach. Our microtunneling crew operated a Akkerman SL74 at approximately 60 feet below sea level with approximately 28 PSI of water pressure. The goal of the project is to move the water and wasterwater mains to a deeper location, allow for the dredging of the shipping channel into the Port of Miami, and enable larger ships to access the port.
