Lime Kiln Dam Removal Project

Location:
Grafton, WI
Completed:
November 2010

In the fall of 2010, SEI and SX Blasting performed a blasting project on the Milwaukee River in Grafton, WI.  The goal of the project was to remove the Lime Kiln Dam to allow fish and other organisms to access critical habitats for spawning, feeding, and persisting.  The County implemented the use of explosives to remove the concrete dam rather than using a hydraulic breaker which in turn saved many staff and equipment hours. The project involved blasting three separate times until the entire dam was removed.
